Do I Need Help with Financial Planning?
You may not.
My father, born in 1915, did well without it. He is still alive and has a generous Illinois State pension, his university education was paid for by the GI Bill, he bought modest houses with a large down payment, stayed married, still saves regularly, and didn’t use credit very much.
We are different and our times have changed.
- Pensions are no longer common.
- We change jobs more often. We may need to change careers.
- No more GI Bill.
- People frequently leave college with large debts.
- Parents face great difficulty financing their children's education.
- Divorces, single parenthood and “blended families” are a common fact of our lives.
- Houses are much more expensive.
- Many people live with a high level of indebtedness.
- We live longer and are more likely to have a period where we need long-term personal care.
- Our retirement is a longer part of our lives, requiring more assets.
- Our tax system becomes more complicated every year.
- 401(k) or 403(b) plans do not manage themselves.
- More people are single.
- Many people have committed non-married relationships.
- People come from other countries with a different financial culture.
Financial planning can help you thrive and enjoy a future filled with uncertainty, challenges and promise.
